PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

This is the time of the year when we consider club officers for next year. We are putting out a call for nominations or those who would like to volunteer. In particular, we will need someone familiar or willing to learn to publish our newsletter. Karen, who has done a fine job for the past two years will be moving to the Chino Valley area in the fall. Please contact any officer if you're interested in helping.

The memorial for Steve Swartz is in the works. A steel plaque will be manufactured and installed above one of the corrals at the Bronco Trailhead. Two configurations were presented to the members attending our last meeting. The one selected has his name and appropriate dates in a silhouette of six running horses. We will have the artist convert three of the horses to mules. Also, the members elected to present the Groom Creek Trailhead Improvement Fund a check for $200 in Steve's name. This organization is raising funds to build four corrals at the trailhead.

For our April meeting we are attempting to enlist the services of a knowledgeable person in the area of horse/mule first aid procedures, equipment and supplies. If we are successful, it should be an interesting session.

SPUR CROSS TRAIL #4
Saturday, March 26, 2005
The wildflowers were beautiful and the views were breathtaking, and 14 riders got to see it all. Tom O'Reilly led the ride (from the back!), and we had lunch among the petroglyphs overlooking the old 6L Ranch.

UPCOMING RIDES

The time listed is the time we ride out. Be sure to arrive early enough to be ready to ride at the stated time!!

SOUTH MOUNTAIN PARK Preride picture
Sunday, April 3, 2005 10:00 a.m. Ride Rating 2.5

THIS RIDE HAD BEEN CANCELLED ON MARCH 6!
Nice trails and scenic views from the largest municipal park in the country. Since there's really no place to tie up horses for lunch, we'll be doing a figure 8 loop. The longer first loop (3 1/2 hours) will get us back to our trailers for lunch. After lunch, for those who wish to keep going, we can do another loop (about 1 1/2 hours) to enjoy the wildflowers. Bring trail snacks and lunch. There is water at the parking area.
.
Directions: Take I-17 south to exit 196, 7th Ave/Central Ave. Stay on the frontage road past 7th Ave. to Central Ave. Turn right on Central Ave. and follow it into South Mtn. Park (about 5 miles). The equestrian parking area is the second left--follow the club sign.
Please RSVP to Cindy at 480-488-8444.
