Groom Creek Horse Camp was constructed
through the joint efforts of active Arizona equestrians led by Isabelle Brown,
Cathy Hubbard, Vicki Muecke, Sally Allen and the U.S. Forest Service with the
funding encouragement of Senator Dennis DeConcini.
The campground was
built for the exclusive use of the equestrian camper and any use of the facility
without a horse is prohibited. There is a nominal charge for overnight use of
the campground facilities and campers are limited to the number of days at campsites.
All of the campsites are reservable except for a few that are kept open for "first-come,
first-served" arrivals. Trailers over 35 feet in length are prohibited because
the campsites cannot accommodate them. Reservations are made through the Bradshaw
Ranger District in Prescott, 62-445-7253.
There are three loop trails
of varying lengths from the horse camp area. Hikers and mountain bikers are also
permitted to use the trails, but the majority of users are equestrians.
