PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE Lowell
Relken of the Diamond B Ranch presented the members an outline of his training
techniques and invited us to his ranch for a training demonstration. He uses the
Parelli 'natural training' method and can accommodate about 12 students and horses
in a session. We are looking into scheduling such a session with Lowell in the
near future. There are some fun events coming up in February such as the cow sorting
clinic on the 5th , and the Black Stallion Reading Program at Horse lovers Park
on the 16th through the 24th. See articles in this issue.
Black
Stallion Reading Program The Black Stallion Reading Program needs volunteers
to explain equine feeding, grooming, shoeing, and tack to 1st grade students at
Horse Lovers Park. The event runs from Thursday, February 16th to the 24th (minus
Saturday and Sunday). The organizers need assistance for the 21st, 23rd, and the
24th. The other days are being handled by other organizations or clubs. I would
like to make a commitment on behalf of the CCSC for one of these remaining days
(Friday the 24th). This will require volunteers to man each of the eight booths
( 2-feed, 2-shoeing, 2-grooming, and 2-tack ) plus each booth will have a horse
or mule with handlers. That adds up to about 24 people. We are to start setting
up at 8:00AM for a 9:45 to 11:00 AM presentation. If you can help with this effort
contact Bob Doerzbacher at doerzbacher@prodigy.net on 480-575-1012.

Horsemanship
Clinic Saturday, February 25 @ 9 AM to 12 noon
Lowell Relkin, a natural
horsemanship clinician and trainer, will be conducting a free clinic from 9 a.m
to noon on Saturday, February 25, 2006. The clinic will be held at Lowell's ranch,
the Diamond "B", located at 35212 N. 51st Street. Lowell
applies the techniques he learned from Ray Hunt, Lee Smith, Buck Brannaman and
Pat Parelli. He has developed his own style of teaching where he promotes letting
your idea become the horse's idea. Lowell's philosophy is that respect, communication
and confidence is built between the horse and rider by offering the horse a "fair
deal" and not making or forcing him to do a task. Lowell has found that effective
problem solving happens by using successful communication versus mechanical equipment,
fear or intimidation. Learn
how to build trust and confidence in your horse and how to fixseparation anxiety,
barn sourness,"jigging"on the trail, trailer loading problems, kicking
and biting. Lowell can accommodate 12 riders and unlimited auditors. Call Lowell
to reserve your space, or if you have any questions. He can be reached at (480)
488-2268.
Directions:
Diamond "B" ranch is located four blocks west of Cave Creek Road
and 1/2 mile northof Carefree Highway on 51st Street.
