MARCH 2006 Next
Meeting: TUESDAY MARCH 21, 2006 7:30PM PRESIDENT'S
MESSAGE Also, an early heads up for Sunday, April 2nd, due to popular demand, we will hold one more Cow Sorting Competition before the heat wave! Congratulations to Jana and Bob Morris for winning the February competition. Kudos to Jan Blake for setting up our "special" clinic with Lowell Relken at Diamond B Ranch. We had a great turnout, 11 riders, and 5 auditors! We all learned a lot and owe Lowell a big old "Thank you" for taking the time to teach us humans how to be partners with our horse. There was a second Cave Creek Trails Committee meeting this past month, and the committee was asking for volunteers to sign up for a database being compiled for the beginning stages. Whether you can offer administrative skills or support with construction or landscaping expertise, your assistance would be a great contribution to the creation and preservation of the trails! We will have sign up sheets at our next meeting, which is Tuesday, March 21st at 7:30 PM. at the Harris Bank. Please note that Bonnie Zimmerman has graciously taken on the Newsletter for the rest of this season. If you have any equestrian news or information, please feel free to e-mail Bonnie, bonzim@earthlink.net, before the last weekend of the month! Nancy
Doerzbacher had a very successful knee surgery and is quickly on the mend. We
all wish her a speedy recovery. We miss you, Nancy! 2006 RIDE SCHEDULE Numbers in parentheses are tentative trail ratings. Rules and ratings will be handed out at the meetings and the rides. You can also get them from the web site (click on rules or ratings).

REPORTS On Saturday, February 25, Lowell Relkin conducted a clinic for members of the Cave Creek Saddle Club. Lowell, a natural horsemanship clinician and trainer, promotes letting your idea become the horse's idea. Lowell's philosophy is that respect, communication, and confidence is built between the horse and rider by offering the horse a "fair deal" and not making or forcing him to do a task. Club members
were offered this clinic as a way of introducing the 3-hour sessions he holds
two Saturdays a month for $35. Foundation classes are held in the morning and
advanced in the afternoon. Lowell suggested that by club members taking the clinics
together, we could help each other work on needed skills. Call Diamond B Ranch
for dates and times: 480-488-2268 For pictures click here. UPCOMING RIDES The time listed is the time we ride out. Be sure to arrive early enough to be ready to ride at the stated time!! Cherry
