PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Howdy, all!

Our January meeting was very well attended, and thanks to Jerry Caswell, we received very valuable information about horseshoeing. Jerry was very gracious and answered all of our questions.

Two items on the agenda were discussed and due to confusion and insufficient facts, it was therefore decided that the dialogue will continue at the February meeting for a vote: whether to cancel our liability insurance and whether to partner with Bridle & Bit and the Buffalo Chip, the club serving as official hosts for monthly trail rides leaving from the Chip. It has been decided to form two fact finding groups to research and clarify the details regarding each issue, and we will vote at the next meeting. If you wish to be part of the "fact-finders" please phone me. If you want to vote, please be sure to attend this meeting. The meeting will be a closed meeting, open only to members.

Thanks to our two trail leading teams in January: Terry Smith to Spencer's Seep and Nancy and Phil Lucas at Vulture Mine Peak. Hats off to our "hostess with the mostest", Nancy Doerzbacher for our Friday Night Fish Fry!
See you on the trails!

Susan

Spencer's Seep Ride Report by Bob Doerzbacher
Terry Smith put together a very nice ride through the cattle & Indian country East of the trailhead at Cavalry Road. The weather was clear but cold and 18 riders bundled up for the trip to Spencer's Seep. The ride went east though range country (no cows seen) into the ancestral Apace Indian trails recently restored by Terry and friends. The ride was, for the most part, very easy. Everyone had to dismount only once on the trail. Spencer's Seep is an old and sacred (I think) watering hole built by the Apaches. It contains two neatly placed concrete troughs supplied by and interconnected with PCV pipe. Some of us enjoyed our lunches in one of these troughs. The only petroglyph visible was the one indicating the name of the Seep. The ride back to the trailers was the completion of the loop. We went out of Indian country and back into range country (still no cows). We appreciate Terry's hard work with the ride and the trails. He indicated he would welcome any help he can get in his continuing effort to restore these ancient trails.
