IN MEMORIUM
As most of you know, Bob & Nancy Doerzbacher recently lost their beloved gelding, Lucky. Lucky was a good, dependable horse who led many club rides. He really liked to be out front, & also took pleasure in the game of sorting cows. I know we all join Bob & Nancy in their time of sorrow. Lucky will be missed.

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Hi, everyone!
We are into March already! It's time to start thinking about officers for next year. If anyone is interested in being part of the Board, please let me know! We will be voting in May. I plan to suggest two year tenure this time around.

At the last meeting it was voted to maintain our insurance coverage for this year. Special thanks to Harry Duggan for clarifying that for us.

The proposal as to whether or not to lead rides out of the Buffalo Chip on a monthly basis in conjunction with a Cowboy Breakfast provided by the Bridle & Bit and open to the general public has been shelved for now.

Special thanks to all those members this past month who volunteered their time and energy to fulfill a busy month of rides and events: Bob Doerzbacher, Nancy Doerzbacher, Cindy Gasper, Susie Bradstock, Donna Russ, Frank Ziskovsky, Abbie Brese, and our nonmember, Lou Menuccini for his gracious generosity on Fun Day!

I know everyone joins me in expressing sympathy to Nancy and Bob upon their loss. The news was shocking, and we all know how much Lucky meant to them both.

We have a great month in March and I can't wait to see you all on the trails!

Susan

Moonlight Ride & Dinner Report by Bob Doerzbacher
The February 3rd ride started at 5:30 PM with twelve riders from TC Corral behind the Roadhouse Restaurant. What was supposed to be a moonlight ride ended up as a sunset ride, as the moon didn't rise until after we got back. The ride featured a trip through Rancho Manana Golf Course, where the golfers took delight in taking our pictures. Then we rode into Cave Creek, which had more than its usual amount of water flowing. We arrived back at the trailhead after dark with no casualties.
The dinner at the 'Chip' after the ride had eighteen diners & a fair amount of libation (at least on my end of the table). The entertainment included the bouncer pitching someone out for inappropriate behavior with one of the waitresses. And, of course, there was dancing to the Pat James Band, which capped off the fun.

Saguaro Lake Ride Report by Susie Bradstock
There were 8 riders besides Donna and me. It was a beautiful day. We had a bit of wash, a bit of rocks, some old sheep trails on the way home, and country with beautiful views to ride through. We had lunch down below the Blue Point Bridge on the bank of the River. This is not the same ride as we usually do from the parking lot below the dam. It was cross country & had no steep-ups. Everyone had an enjoyable time.

CCSC Fun Day Trail Competition Report by Nancy Doerzbacher
Six teams of two riders competed in the Fun Day Trail Competition on Saturday, February 17th. The day started with coffee and doughnuts provided by our host, Lou Mencuccini, and a bit of practice on the obstacle course. After the actual test, riders went out on the trail in teams of two for a Poker Ride. Everyone returned safely and in time for lunch at the Doerzbacher's. Many thanks to Bob and Frank who groomed the arena and set up the tests, to Frank and Abby who judged the obstacle competition, to Bob for organizing the ride, and the many people who helped the day go so smoothly. Overall winners were Forrest Marsalis and Lisa Broder. A good time was had by all.

UPCOMING RIDES AND EVENTS

All times are subject to change - Please RSVP

MONDAY, MARCH 6th 6 PM RATED TASTY
SPAGHETTI DINNER @ HAROLD'S
CONTACT NANCY DOERZBACHER @ 480-575-1012

SATURDAY, MARCH 10TH 10AM
VULTURE PEAK Rated 2
CONTACT PHIL LUCAS 623-386-1237
As you all know this ride was previously cancelled due to some very nasty weather. So……let's try again. This area has a little of everything. Besides the beautiful scenery, we'll encounter flat areas, hills, rocks & sand.
Directions: Take US 60 to Wickenburg. Stay on 60 through Wickenburg to the west side of town. Turn left on Vulture Mine Road. (There is a light.) As you go down that road, you'll pass the school & the golf course. Watch for the large antenna on your right. Slow down as you pass it & watch for Vulture Peak Rd. on your left. This is a dirt road, but there is a street sign. Turn left onto Vulture Peak Rd. Go .9 miles & turn into open area on your right to park. We'll try to get there early to direct everyone. If you get to the 1 mile marker, you've missed it. But you can go up the hill & turn around, if necessary.
For further info or to RSVP, please contact Phil Lucas @ 623-386-1237.

SATURDAY, MARCH 17th @ 10AM
SOUTH MT. FLOWER RIDE Rated 2.5
CONTACT JAN BLAKE @ 480-488-5886
If we've timed it right, this should be a really pretty ride. We should only be in the saddle for about 3 hours. But if the wildflowers are blooming, it will be well worth the trip. And even if they're not, it will still be a fun ride. The trails are typically well maintained with some rocky areas & a minimal amount of climbing. Be sure to bring your lunch to enjoy back at the staging area after the ride.
Directions: From Cave Creek, take AZ101 loop E. to AZ-51 S via exit #29. Go about 15.6 miles & then merge onto I-10 E. Go about 2.2 miles & then merge onto I-17 N / US-60W via exit 150 toward Flagstaff. Go about 1.4 miles & take exit 195B toward 7th St. / Central Ave. After about .2 miles make a slight turn left onto E. Maricopa FWY. Go another .5 miles & turn left onto S. Central Ave. After about 5.5 miles this will end at the South Mountain Park - North Entrance. (10919 S. Central Avenue)
>>Note: There are several Streets south to Baseline you may prefer to continue to Central and go south until it ends in the park.<<
Other directions:
Use I-17. Exit south onto either 19th Ave or 7th Ave and at Baseline, turn east and continue to Central. Turn south onto Central. From the entrance - welcome booth, continue into the park and there is a sign for the "Equestrian Area". It should be the 2nd or 3rd turn and can be seen from the entrance road. Don't go up the mountain! For further info or to RSVP, please contact Jan Blake @ 480-488-5886.

SUNDAY, APRIL 1st 10AM RATED FUN COW SORTING
CONTACT NANCY DOERZBACHER @ 480-575-1012
Come on out & have some fun playing with cows. Larry Maybon has moved. His ranch is now located in the 4500 block of New River Rd. He doesn't have a sign for his ranch yet, but we'll have CCSC signs to direct us.
Directions: Take Carefree Hwy to 7th St. Turn north onto 7th. That will eventually become New River Rd. Stay on New River until you pass Shangri La. (That's quite a distance.) The ranch will be on the west side of the road. Look for the Saddle Club signs. RSVP to Nancy Doerzbacher at 480-575-1012.

HAPPY TRAILS!
