Meeting: TUESDAY November 20, 2007 7:30 PM Howdy Folks, We are off to a great start! We keep growing in members and more riders are joining the ranks on the trails. Sedona was a long, but easy ride. Some Cave Creekers joined the Lone Rangers for pot luck dinner and sat around the campfire after the ride as the sun set in the distance. Wickenburg's Sophie's Flat was a gorgeous day, and I am happy to say that four wheelers and equestrians can share the trails! The Hassayampa was running, okay, it was trickling, and we were lucky to be the first group to claim the Box Canyon for our lunch. If you have not taken a peek at the website to see the photos courtesy of Aliki...yeah Aliki!...please do so. Coming up...Wild West Days, Spur Cross and a Pizza Party chez Barb Ciochetti. Don't miss the fun and camaraderie! On a sadder note, Jean Pearson is quite ill and in a hospice. Lee Vetter has major surgery scheduled for October 30th. Please say whatever prayers are in your heart for Lee and Jean. Susan NOTES FROM CINDY RAMSEY, TREASURER Yee Haa Y'all. It's time to get your membership paid up for the year so you can enjoy our outings. We sure had a great time at Pioneer Village last week - great food - and it was even free. Who would have guessed! And there was the awesome trail ride in Wickenburg. It is so beautiful there. Anyway, back to my job here. We want you to join us for the fun. But, ya gotta pay the price! It’s $15 individual & $25 family. The membership applications are downloadable at www.cavecreeksaddleclub.org. Cindy Ramsey Just a note Friday, October 19th, was a perfect night to enjoy good friends & good food out on the patio of the Pioneer Restaurant. Fortunately for us, there was also a wedding reception there at the time. The band & the festivities truly enhanced our evening as well. And we owe Jim Brown, owner of the restaurant, an extra big “thank you”. For the price of a rousing “Yee Haa” (which we gladly gave) & a nice tip for our waiter…Jim paid for all of our meals. Such generosity is rare. Thanks again, Jim. You are a true gentleman. Contact: Barb Ciocchetti @ 623-465-5455 ASHA Notes from Jean Anderson Several weeks ago, ASHA was sent a notice by a friend who lives in Maricopa, AZ. It was about possible zoning & ordinance changes in Pinal affecting livestock owners. Our President, Chip Wilson, our VP Ed O’Brien & I attended a meeting in Florence that was about the proposed changes. As a result of ASHA’s “Alert” e-mails & flyers, the meeting was standing room only with 178 in attendance. The speakers made it clear that they felt the county was not protecting their rural lifestyle. They also questioned whether or not there were any horse people on the committee that are recommending these zoning changes. Many questioned their rights as property owners versus those moving into the county without livestock. Someone pointed out that Pinal County has the highest number of roping arenas in the whole country. I spoke regarding the Equine Economic Report by ASHA & the U of A which showed that this state profits by the equine industry to the tune of 1.3 BILLION dollars. I presented a copy of the report to each of the staff present. There was another meeting in Florence this past Thursday that Ed & Chip attended. Nene Henry of the newly formed Equine Committee of the Farm Bureau was one of the speakers. ASHA will send out notices regarding future meetings. Our ASHA Day at the Races was held on October 13th at Turf Paradise. We had 50 people in attendance & 5 artists from the Sonoran Art League. All & all it was a really fun day. The Poker / Trail ride was held on October 20th. We had 19 riders & 40 for the catered lunch. The first prize in poker was $150; now that was worth the trip. Thanks to John Manes & his family for all their hard work to make this ride a success. Our next event will be the ASHA Roping to be held Thanksgiving weekend, November 24th & 25th at Horse Lovers’ Park on Tatum Blvd, South of the 101. HAPPY TRAILS!
