PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE
Happy New Year Everyone!
Hope everyone enjoyed the Holiday Season. Our
ride at Bumble Bee Ranch was a great day. Windy and cool, we bundled up and
headed out through washes and up the hillside. It was a glorious ride. Although
I missed it, rumor has it the lunch was delicious. It was great to see everyone!
We have a fun line up for January so check out
the events and rides and try to join us. The meeting will feature an equine
massage therapist, so be sure to come, if you can!

ASHA Notes from Jean Anderson
ASHA (Board Members, Chip, Ed and Jean) has been
very busy going to meetings in Pinal County, and discussing the zoning changes
there. ASHA has been at the forefront of these meetings; guiding the horse
people who actually live in Pinal County. Our ASHA President, Walter “Chip”
Wilson, lives in Apache Junction, in Pinal County, and is also a newly elected
city councilman. He does know most of the Pinal County Supervisors, so he keeps
in touch with them.
Also, Our ASHA Vice President/Membership Chair,
Ed O’Brien, has been writing GREAT articles concerning the Pinal Zoning for the
Horse Connection, and we’ve received great results. He’s written articles for
the last two issues & hopes to continue.
ASHA, had at its December meeting, Patti Fenner,
who is Noxious Weed Manager for the Tonto National Forest. Her talk and power
point presentation was fantastic. The Tonto will be “closing” the Tonto to all
hay that is “NOT WEED FREE” in the coming months. ASHA feels that cattle, sheep
and birds bring in more noxious weed seeds that do horses, and I think Patti
does, too, but the Forest managers have to be careful. Right now, Patti claims,
the weed infestation is not too bad, but it could become a real problem. I have
since talked with our President, Susan Dryer, and asked her if she would like to
have Patti come to one of the CCSC Meetings; saying “yes”; maybe in February and
March?
Our next ASHA Roping will be at Reach 11 on March
2nd and 3rd, 2008. These are two of ASHA’s Fundraisers, and we’ve been doing
them, very successfully, since 2001.
ASHA dues were due the 31st of December;
discounted if paid before the end of 2007. I am proud to say that ASHA can now
boast of having over 4000 members; Individual, Businesses, and Clubs including
the CCSC, The AZ Arabian Horse Assoc., RVHA, Payson and Prescott Horsemen’s
Associations, SEAHA, and many more. If you have been receiving the ASHA
Newsletter, you’ve seen the discounts that several businesses have given to ASHA
Members who buy from them. Be sure to take advantage of these discounts when you
can. And please thank those participating business owners when you buy from
them.
Happy trails & happy 2008. Jean
