PREZ SEZ
Dear Cave Creek Saddle Club Members,
Let's Ride! Summer is almost over.
Time to get some new shoes nailed on (or check on those barefoot
boots). Get a little round pen time to leg up those horses and
hit the trail. I've been living my riding life this summer
vicariously by reading and listening to tales of summer trails. Yep!
A
summer heat couch potato!
But that doesn't mean we're not planning. In August our crew met
up to have a brainstorming session and we have a great fall season
planned.
The first ride will be a fairly flat ride since
many have horses that need to get back in shape. We plan to do
a repeat of the Breakfast Ride starting at 24th Street
and Joy Ranch Road.
Yep! There's food, but the hotdogs by moonlight will have to
wait for another time.
The first meeting will be a change also. Barb has reserved the
back room of El Encanto in Downtown Cave Creek for our first meeting
on September 16th. There will be a dinner hour for those that
want to come before the meeting. The meeting will follow so that we
can share all
the new plans
and get input from YOU on things you would like to see the club do.
So please come..... we've missed you.
Future meetings will be held at
our regular location,
Harris Bank. Look forward to some great
speakers starting in October. Read those newsletters so you
can learn what's up.
If I can answer questions or you just want to
chat, give a holler.
Cindy
Ramsey, President
Infoline
from Cindy
Time to get those horses legged up for a great
riding season. Since many of us ride on state land, this is a
great opportunity to renew (or get your first) State Land Permit.
However, I am saddened to say that Arizona State Land Department has
increased their fees from $15 to $50 for an individual and $20 to
$75 for a family permit.

Meet Cindy Ramsey:
President
Most
of you will know Cindy as the Executive Director of Horses Help for
18 years. Even in
retirement, she stays involved there with their Board of Directors
and fundraising activities.
She is also an active participant in Arizona Cowgirls, Happy
Hoofers, Arizona Back Country Riders and a few other horsey
organizations. Oops,
let’s not forget Cave Creek Saddle Club, of which she has been a
member for at least 15 years.
This year Cindy plans to spend a lot of time in the saddle
and get some good use out of her two horses, Comet and Magic!
And of course, her saddle pard, Rik, will be close by on
Hootie.
Some of the horsey accomplishments of
which she can be very proud are: Special Achievement Award that was
presented by the Arizona State Horsemen’s Association.; the local
Horse Hero Award; the Advanced Horsemaster w/ Honors Certification;
and regional chairperson (5-state) for North American Riding for the
Handicapped Association.
Cindy says, “The community is very
important and our support of it makes a difference.”
On that thread, she is an active member of Desert Foothills
Women’s Club. The two
primary positions she holds there are Treasurer and Chairperson of
Philanthropy. “I have to
say that the Philanthropy part is a real kick!
After 20 years of begging for money for Horses Help, I get to
give it away to worthy young ladies for
their future education and also to active community groups!”

Meet
Donna Russ:
Vice President
Donna has been a member of CCSC since 1981 and
has lived in Cave Creek since 1988. She moved here from PA in
1980 with second husband Bill.
She has a son and daughter; son lives in Phoenix, daughter lives in Austin, Texas.
Donna grew up on a farm, has owned horses all of her life, and
showed Quarter horses until coming to
Arizona. She got into trail riding
with the Cave Creek Club and got hooked on it instead of showing.
She has owned a mule for the last ten years, which she enjoys as
much as horses!
Donna also belongs to the
Desert Saddle Bags, Arizona Cowgirls, Tucson Saddle Club, Prescott
Saddle Club, and Cowbelles in southern Arizona. She is on the Equestrian Board
for the Arizona Farm Bureau also.
“I have always enjoyed the members and rides that the club
has put on over the years and meeting new members. Personally,
I think we have a great trail riding club and hope we can get more
members involved for the coming year. I sincerely hope that
everyone supports the new board of directors to do the best job they
can this trail riding year”, says Donna. You can

Rhonda Dimmick; Newsletter
Rhonda has worked for Farnam Companies for the
past 24 years. Farnam is
the manufacturer of popular horse products such as Zimecterin horse
dewormer and Repel X fly spray.
Sometimes she surprises us at saddle club events with free
dewormer for all attendees!
She recently donated her old trail horse to Horses
with Heart, a therapeutic riding facility, but still has a quarter
horse mare, five month old colt and dog, Spanky.
She currently lives in Desert Hills.
Her trail riding buddy is also her mom and the Activities
Coordinator for the saddle club, Barb Ciocchetti.
Rhonda has a 15 year old son who’d rather be on
the football field than a horse, and a 22 year old daughter who is
an X-Ray Tech at Scottsdale Healthcare North. She grew up in
Colorado
and spent her younger days rodeoing in Little Britches, High School,
Intercollegiate and amateur rodeos.
She is also a new member of the Lone Rangers Singles Riding
Club.
“I am looking forward to visiting the many
different trail riding areas in Arizona now that I am a
trail rider!”

Meet
Barb Ciocchetti: Event Coordinator
This is Barb’s second year as the event coordinator for CCSC.
“I did enjoy meeting many new people and planning some fun and new
activities last year”, says Barb. She has recently retired
from Safeway and has time to do a lot more horse activities.
She also rides with the Lone Rangers, Arizona Cowgirls and the
Saddle Bags. Barb lives in Desert Hills and now enjoys the
"country". For the past
14 years, she has been known as “the voice of Dynamite”…..she does
the announcing for all team ropings held at Dynamite Arena every
Wednesday and Sunday.
She rides a retired team roping horse, Goldilocks, and also has a
teacup Chihuahua,
Pepe.
Barb has 2 grown daughters who both are active in horse activities.
Rhonda is also a member of the CCSC and Michelle, who lives
in Benson, barrel races and gives riding lessons. She has 4
grandchildren and one great granddaughter, and only one likes
horses!
“I think we have a fun and busy agenda for this season and hope we
get many more members to become active. I am always open for
suggestions! Please send
your ideas to Barb at

Meet Greg LaCosse: Trail Boss
One of CCSC’s newer members, Greg joined the group
last year. However, he
had ridden with many of its members for many years through other
horse organizations. He
is a longtime member of the Lone Rangers and Arizona State
Horseman’s Association.
He rides a Quarter horse named Bob which he’s had for the
past 13 years. On his most memorable trek across the Painted
Desert/Petrified Forest in the summer of 1997, he exclaimed, “I am
in utter awe of how the western pioneers crossed this treacherous
land without maps and the knowledge of what was ahead. We just spent
three hours finding our way back from the most outer reaches of this
area with two horses and no trails, climbing cliff ending buttes and
riding into dead end canyons.”
Greg believes he earned his spurs working at local rodeos.
His mainstay the last twenty years has been running the roping
chutes at the fifty plus year old Cliff Garrett Memorial Annual
Charity Rodeo.
Though he lives down in
Phoenix, Cave Creek has always been like a
second home, and he participates in many Cave Creek activities. A
transplanted native, Greg grew up in the “wilds’ of the infamous
Chicago
south side, kicking tumbling garbage cans instead of tumbleweeds. In
the late 1960’s he formed one of
Chicago’s first country & western bands.
Though critically acclaimed, this type of music was not widely
appreciated by the local blues and soul community. In 1969 he
embarked on a solo career and became part of the Chicago folk music scene.
As a self-proclaimed misplaced cowboy, he dreamed of the old
west, and longed for the day he could pack his bags, find a good
horse and head for the western sunset.
He left Chicago in 1976 for Arizona and immediately
immersed himself and his music in the western lifestyle, history and
heritage.
Greg is a mechanical design engineer who is
currently coordinating technical publications for the aerospace
industry. He has a
22-year-old daughter who is finishing her last year of college at
NAU.
