FROM OUR TRAIL COORDNIATOR
Hey everyone,
Watch the calendar and your emails for last minute
ride changes due to the continuation and inconvenience of ‘iffy’
weather. Remember ‘head counts’ may determine the existence of a
ride. Either call the ride leader or respond at
www.cavecreeksaddleclub.org
(follow “events”) if you plan to attend.
I only have the Badger Springs pre-ride to report
this month: we had six turn out, two brand new members, John and
Helen—very nice people on nice horses and I hope we make them feel
welcome and see them on many rides to come.
That day marked my second recent ride in the Badger
Springs area and the two rides could not have been more different in
both terrain and challenge. While the pre-ride was a level two, the
previous ride was easily a level three. It is just gorgeous out
there and the sky is the limit for trails and diversity—there is an
upcoming Badger Springs ride on the calendar this month.
For the club pre-ride we rode straight to the Agua
Fria River down a pleasant wash, where Lucy and her horse, LeRoy,
managed to find an apparently “known to others” spot of quicksand.
As LeRoy’s back end abruptly disappeared, those of us on solid
ground could only watch in surprise as Lucy crabbed off the saddle
and LeRoy lunged his way out-- all turned out well but watch for the
big flat rock in the river at the bottom of the first wash—trust me,
it’s a doozy! On a lighter note, we did see some up close and
personal petro glyphs on the stroll back and we all stopped for pie
at Rock Springs—boy that place is not quite as I remember it-- what
happened??
My other ride this month, China Dam on the 30th,
occurs too late for this letter so watch for that report in next
month’s newsletter. Seems I had January off and your remaining ride
reports will come from Susan D and our president, Cindy R.
And p.s.—sorry I missed the poker game after the
Emery Henderson ride—the ride was longer than I’d promised and I
wanted to hurry
home and spend a minute with
my traveling hubby! I understand everyone had a good time and I’m
sorry I missed a chance to chat with you all. And of course,
congrats to the poker winners.
See ya’ on
the trails,
Jeannie &
Sister Sol

Emery Henderson Ride
CCSC rang in the new year on January 10th with a
ride at the Emery Henderson - Black Canyon Sheep Trail in New River.
The attendance was amazing with 34 riders. Needless to say we
got spread out on the trail as it wound around. The windmill
was a wonderful lunch spot with an overflowing water tank and lots
of shade. There was one prickly victim who will remain
unnamed. As an added extra we had a poker hand draw and
the high was Michelle Smith's son and low hand was Kathryn Friedman.
We hoped to make the awards at the January meeting, however, your
check is in the mail!
I hope everyone enjoyed this
ride. It is so greatly improved from several years ago and has some
gorgeous canyons and washes. Cindy Ramsey
