From our original location started in 1978 to our new location built in 2008, the practice has constantly been striving to improve patient care by being progressive in the services we provide.

We now offer not only quality primary care services for our patients but we also provide specialists for the most demanding referral cases. At last count, we have on staff 10 veterinarians (two of which are board certified specialists), 20 staff members, and many other specialists who will see your animal when special circumstances require.

PREZ SEZ

Desert and Flower Enthusiasts!

We're going to have a great time this spring.  Be sure to bring your camera to all the rides to get those spectacular shots of our flowering desert.

Our rides and events just get better and better so please join us.   Greg, our trail master, is busy plotting out February and March.  If you would like to lead a ride I know he would love to hear from you.

The February 17th meeting will be a very special event.  We will meet at Chaparral Veterinary Medical Clinic on Cave Creek Road at Ashler Hills.  The meeting will start at 7:00PM.  The speaker will be Dr. Gryl and she will be discussing immunizations and deworming among other pertinent horsey maintenance subjects.  There will also be a tour of their new facility.  The regular business meeting will follow Dr. Gryl's presentation.   Please come and share the wonderful opportunity.

We have had questions on how to delete your name from the web site after you sign up for an activity.  You can’t.  Two things you can do:  1. call the person who is hosting the ride and TELL THEM    2. go into the website and make a new entry only say "cancel above reservation" or something similar.

See ya on the trail and at our February meeting.

 Cindy

RIDE/ACTIVITY REPORTS:

On Jan 18th, fourteen CCSC members and friends arrived at Tyler Weiss's place for a team sorting clinic. It was a beautiful day and Larry Maybon and crew were in attendance to help everyone improve their skills.  After a few practice go rounds, considerable improvement was noted in the CCSC crews skills!   The final score was tallied and results were:

#1 Sheree Riggs and Abbie Brese  - Larry donated collapsible water buckets to the first place winners!

#2 Cindy Ramsey and Rhonda Dimmick

#3 Phil and Nancy Lucas

#4 Beau Brese and Jan Blake

Congratulations to the winners, and perhaps next time Rik’s mustang mare won't be lame!

Speaking of next time, on Feb 22nd, I think we'll do another one. Same time, same place… check on the website for details.   Rik Ingram

On Saturday January 24th, 5 CCSC riders went to the Estrella Mountain Park Ride west of Phoenix.  Our ride hosts, K and Theresa Rogers, led our mulish (4 mules/4 horses) contingency on some of the new trails on the east side of the park.  We topped one rise and looked down on PIR and across at downtown Phoenix in the distance.  We lunched in a wash and had a great ride back.  The Mounted Shooters were having a competition and we were able to ride up near them to let our horses/mules accustom themselves.  We were pretty close too.

It was another gorgeous day in the Valley of the Sun! A huge thanks to our hosts - let's do this again, there's lots more trails to see.  Cindy

From Trail Coordinator: Greg LaCosse

Donna O’Connell will be hosting a Valentine’s Day Ride from her home in New River on Saturday February 14th.

Joyce Clark will be hosting our second February ride on Saturday the 28th, just west of I-17 off Table Mesa Road in New River.

Phil and Nancy Lucas will be hosting a ride in Wickenburg on Saturday March 21, and Norm Adams plans to host a ride in the Apache Junction area also in March.

Details will be in the March newsletter.

March 21   Saturday    2nd  Annual  HORSES HELP BENEFIT TRAIL TRIALS
AT MC DOWELL MOUNTAIN PARK

It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since the last Trail Trials!  Time sure flies.  This year we are making a few changes to make the ride go smoother.  The obstacles will be more fun or challenging, depending on your skill level.

For starters there will be a 4 mile and 7 mile course both with 7 to 8 obstacles.  The ride is through washes, decomposed granite and a hill with a few rocks.  There will be beautiful views of Four Peaks, the Fountain and the McDowell Mountains.  The 4 mile ride is classified as a 1 (very easy for beginner rider/horse) and the 7 mile would be a 1 (easy hill). Last year the flowers were in full bloom and the weather in the mid 70’s.

This year we are adding the NC (NON-COMPETE) class.  This is for the people that would like to support Horses Help, but are not interested in being judged over the obstacles.  This class is simply a fun trail ride and you get to check out the obstacles.

There will be 4 judged age group classes this year: KIDS 10-13 MUST WEAR A HELMET, YOUTH 14-17 MUST WEAR A HELMET, ADULT 18-50 and MASTERS 51+.  Each age group will be divided into two categories, NOVICE and OPEN.  There will be awards through 10th place plus an overall Hi Point Trophy.

The ride will again be catered by Burnt Biskit.  They put on a great feed with both roast beef and chicken, fresh garden salad, fresh fruit and biscuits - yum. Lunch is included with all entries.

ENTRY FEE:
KIDS $25, YOUTH $35, ADULT $75, MASTERS $75 AND NC (NON-COMPETITIVE) $50.  All proceeds go to Horses Help.  There is a $6 park fee.

You will need to bring a chair, water, hat and sunscreen.  There is now water at the site for horses. Bring a bucket and fork, the Park requires that all manure and hay must be cleaned up and packed out. DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS MARCH 12th.
