The park arenas will be closed Monday and Tuesday but the trails will remain open. For Monday and Tuesday access to trails you can park on the east side of Tatum between 101 and Union Hills. There are two areas for trailer parking. The larger one of the two also has a water trough. Also the main gate to the park will be open and the 2nd gate will now be closed (on Monday and Tuesday) this will allow parking in the lower lot to the left as you enter HLP. There is also a trail head on Cave Creek south of Pinnacle Peak and north of the cemetery. The Monday and Tuesday closure of the park will go into effect on March 2nd.

THANKS TO ALL FOR YOUR HELP WITH HLP!!!

HAPPY TRAILS!

PREZ SEZ

A huge thank you to all of the volunteers that set up rides and events, keep track of our money, take the minutes and all the things that need to happen so that you, the members of Cave Creek Saddle Club, can enjoy a wide selection of rides and activities with like - minded people.

We have taken the approach this year to offer opportunities of varying levels so that everyone can benefit and find a safe ride for their level.  Some of the more challenging rides do require better conditioning on your horse and yourself, which others appreciate.   The old saying goes, "you can never please everyone all the time.... ".  The diversity of our membership is what makes our scheduling more challenging.

That said, I'd like to take a minute to talk about our RSVP system.  We truly need to have you sign up for rides and events.  Sometimes we must GUARANTEE participation, especially when they are catered events.  There were two events cancelled in the last couple weeks.  The New River Chili ride was cancelled due to weather problems and the ride leader was ill, we called everyone that we could, sent a mass email and hoped that everyone got the word.  The Spaghetti Dinner had a total of 4 signed up.  Need I say more why that was cancelled??

The question was raised again, how do I sign up or cancel?  First, go to our website and click on events and follow along to register.  If you're not on a computer, call the host of the event.   To cancel, follow the same procedure, only on the website you can re- enter your name and add the word “cancel" or some such verbiage after your name.

The volunteers that are trying to set up these activities truly appreciate your support and participation.

Please join us in the months to come both on the trail and at other activities.

Cindy

Activities/News Sponsored by Some of our Fellow Clubs/ Members

Arizona State Horsemen’s Association

For 11 days, ASHA had it’s booth at the Arabian Horse Show. We did manage to sign up 26 new members. It’s important for everyone, even if you’re a club member that belongs to ASHA, to join as an individual, so that you may receive our ASHA Newsletter. Since we’ve hired a lobbyist through this legislative period, we need support from all of our members. We’re always asked by the legislators; “How many members do you have?” ASHA also has Pay Pal on the membership page for you to pay for your membership dues.

You can now find out just what ASHA is working on through our state legislators by going on the Web Site http://azasha.com/. Our NEW revised web site is really slick. Thanks to our Treasurer, Mark Van Horn, who has taken over the web site and redesigned it.

ASHA will have a booth at the celebration of the Lost Dutchman Days the end of February, and also at the Mini Horse Show in March. If you attend these events, please stop by and say hello.

Happy and safe trails,
   Jean Anderson

Mar  21   Sat      2nd  Annual  HORSES HELP BENEFIT TRAIL TRIALS
AT MC DOWELL MOUNTAIN PARK
It’s hard to believe that it’s been almost a year since the last Trail Trials!
Time sure flies.  This year we are making a few changes to make the ride go smoother.  The obstacles will be more fun or challenging, depending on your skill level.

For starters there will be a 4 mile and 7 mile course both with 7 to 8 obstacles.  The ride is through washes, decomposed granite and a hill with a few rocks.  There will be beautiful views of
Four Peaks, the Fountain and the McDowell Mountains.  The 4 mile ride is classified as a 1 (very easy for beginner rider/horse) and the 7 mile would be a 1 (easy hill). Last year the flowers were in full bloom and the weather in the mid 70’s.

This year we are adding the NC (NON-COMPETE) class.  This is for the people that would like to support Horses Help, but are not interested in being judged over the obstacles.  This class is simply a fun trail ride and you get to check out the obstacles.

There will be 4 judged age group classes this year: KIDS 10-13 MUST WEAR A HELMET, YOUTH 14-17 MUST WEAR A HELMET, ADULT 18-50 and MASTERS 51+.  Each age group will be divided into two categories, NOVICE and OPEN.  There will be awards through 10th place plus an overall Hi Point Trophy.

The ride will again be catered by Burnt Biskit.  They put on a great feed with both roast beef and chicken, fresh garden salad, fresh fruit and biscuits - yum. Lunch is included with all entries.

ENTRY FEE:
KIDS $25, YOUTH $35, ADULT $75, MASTERS $75 AND NC (NON-COMPETITIVE) $50.  All proceeds go to Horses Help.  There is a $6 park fee.

You will need to bring a chair, water, hat and sunscreen.  There is now water at the site for horses. Bring a bucket and fork, the Park requires that all manure and hay must be cleaned up and packed out. DEADLINE FOR ENTRIES IS MARCH 12th.

March 28–29    Large Animal Rescue Training

Daisy Mountain Fire Dept       New River

As you know this training is brought into our state thanks to a joint effort between Large Animal Rescue Company, Arizona Equine Rescue Organization, Inc. and Daisy Mountain Fire Dept to increase the number of trained folks in the area to help horses that have fallen in water canals, swimming pools, become stuck in mud holes, are victims of a horse trailer accident or some other unforeseen hazardous situation.  This training is certified by the California State Fire Marshall and provided to all California State Fire Fighters as technical training.  Their state program has been met with such widespread success and public support that the community regularly provides their departments with equipment for this important role.  We look forward to our educational efforts being met with the same level of community support as we grow the number of resources that can help in these situations.

Our last group included rangers, veterinarians, law enforcement, animal care and control, horse rescues, Emergency Animal Medical Technicians, government veterinary services, and local horseman association members....every single participant provided positive feedback on how helpful this course was to their daily roles as well as better prepared them for emergency situations.

Please take a moment to review the website to find out more about this course:   www.largeanimalrescue.com

Email info@azequinerescue.org to register.

Cost for Basic Training (2 Days) is $190/person and Advanced Training (1 day) is $90/person
