Next Meeting: THURSDAY  April 7, 2010 7:00 PM

REGULAR MEETING LOCATION:

October through May meetings will be held the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 PM (no meeting in December).  All meetings will be held at Harris Bank Community Room 34525 N Scottsdale Rd.

PRESIDENTS LETTER

I’m happy - I saw my first cactus blooms today.  Spring is here and the desert is ready to show it’s colors.    Several club members joined up during the week for a trial run of the new Sonoran Conservancy Trail.  What a treat, groomed trails, vistas with 360 degree views.  And, you can all get a look at this trail too on MAY DAY!  Check out this ride, it’s close to home, just north of Deer Valley Airpark.

The meeting this month will host the trailering safety program by Soleil Dolce from AERO.  Please come and enjoy our final program.  Maybe we can get her to talk about the rescue as well as her program material.

The other important item on the agenda for April is the election of officers and volunteers.  We still need a few club members to step up to keep the club ‘on the trail’ next year.

We’re working on a special May meeting but no information is available at this writing.  Stay tuned.

See you on the trail,   Cindy

NOMINATIONS OF OFFICERS AND

RIDE REPORTS

McDowell Sonoran Preserve: Eight riders met at the Gateway Trailhead and saddled up. We made a nice loop around the hills and then back to our trailers. Gorgeous staging area and a very beautiful ride.

South Mountain Park: Twelve riders traversed the hills within the park, looping around picnic areas, shooting ranges, and race tracks. Our St Patty’s Day green horse also attracted many of the Park visitors. Following our rather warm ride, we gathered at T-Bone Steakhouse, and continued to enjoy each others company while eating dinner and sipping on cold beverages.
New club member Mary and her trail horse Tony.

AzHC - Arizona Horse Council

A HUGE THANKS to all who emailed or called to Governor Brewer on behalf of the equine bill, HB2552. She signed it, and it is now at the IRS for correct wording. I would like to add this: the acreage is NOT limited to 10 acres; as long as the property has been in existence for more than 7 years, and the owner has derived income off of equine, it qualifies as an AG Property. Do your homework....check this out. (You'll have to give the IRS a little time to do the wording.)

AzHC Is sponsoring a Poker Ride on April 23rd out at McDowell Mountain Park. Check our website: http://www.arizonahorsecouncil.org. One may register and PAY for the ride on our site. Hope to see you all there. Remember, we horse people MUST be able to use this park. It's a beautiful park!

Seems as though the situation with the pipe fencing in the Tonto is soon to be resolved. There will be step across access for the horses, soon. This is a classic example of horse people getting together, and
letting the powers to be know that something is amiss, and going ahead and asking for help. Our AzHC President, Ed O'Brien and our AzHC Trails VP, John Manes, attended a meeting, along with the RVHA, the endurance group rep, the Rio Verde Saddle Club, and got this challenge resolved. Thanks to all of them for their hard work.

A little reminder: if you have not paid your AzHC Dues, please do so. Remember, we on the board, are all working for you, the horse owner, to: promote, protect and preserve our equestrian lifestyle.....we cannot do this without funds!!

Happy trails,
Jean

Sunday, May 1, 2011/9:00 a.m. Ride Out
Ride: Sonoran Conservation Area – Maricopa Trail

Ride Leader: Jules Gunter - For questions contact Jules Gunter at cell 623-516-0655 or home 623-210-3968
Level: 2 ˝ to 3
Ride Length: 2-1/2 – 3 Hours

Description: 80% of this ride is on the newly completed and beautifully groomed Maricopa Trail. There are ups/downs but footing is great. There are also areas that are a bit rocky. Although this is an easy ride, you and your horse must be able to cross some fairly deep washes and go up and down a couple of rocky and steep hills. We have been invited to bring our lunches and sit on the patio by the pool after riding. There is a grill and our hosts will have side dishes (pasta and salads) and will do burgers and sausages on the grill for those that want.

Turn right on 5th and it will curve into 7th Avenue. 3rd house on left, parking in lot south of the house. Turn around for bigger trailers. Signs and person directing parking will be there.
