PRESIDENTS LETTER

Wow, March already.  We should see some flowers pretty soon.  I have to say this is my favorite time of year.

There are lots of rides and activities planned for March and April and hopefully you'll be able to join us.   The Clinic with Mary Sutherland was wonderful and we tried to plan a Day 2 for the participants but haven't found a date yet.  Mary's schedule is pretty busy with the ACTHA rides she puts on.  The Trail Obstacle Playday that was 'weathered out' has been reset for Sunday, March 20th.  Mark your calendars and come and have fun with us.  Thank you Joanne (Cox) for hosting this event.

The March 3rd meeting will be very interesting.  Our guest speaker is CCSC member Soleil from Arizona Equine Rescue Organization (AERO).  She will be speaking to us on trailering safety.  I imagine she can fill in some other areas as well.   Please join us for our meetings.

As a reminder, it will soon be time to select your new officers...  Most of the current officers have served for many years and it would be wonderful to give us a retirement party in May.  If you have a hankering or want to nominate someone, please shoot that name over to me.

Thanks to all of you,

Cindy

RIDE REPORTS

Black Canyon Ride: 16 riders led by Frank Ziskovsky departed the Black Canyon Trailhead punctually at 9am. We quickly left behind the blasting noise of gunfire and replaced it with the clattering noise of horse hoofs on the rocky trail, and chit chatting voices of riders on horseback. Winding around and up and down the beautiful desert terrain, our horses sure got a good workout. We had a nice lunch break, giving our horses a well deserved rest then looped back to the trailhead. All had a great time and it was good to see so many new club members join us for this ride.

Rondo Springs Ride:
Andy sure wasn’t kidding about the road to the parking area being terrible. Good thing you’re only on it for about 5 minutes. This turned out to be a nice small group of 6 riders who saddled up and followed our trail boss Andy Lunk to the base of Elephant Mountain. That is where you will find Rondo Springs. It is always such a sweet surprise when you come upon a little oasis like this in the middle of the desert. 360 degrees of absolutely breath taking views to take in once you arrive. Plenty of cool water for the horses, and a few bees too, but they didn’t seem to mind us. Another great ride!
